U.S. Markets

U.S. stocks ended mixed. The DJIA was unchanged at 41,606.18, the S&P 500 was flat at 5,634.58, and the Nasdaq rose 0.2% to 17,628.06.

Asia

China markets were closed due to a public holiday.

Hong Kong shares ended higher, with the Hang Seng Index rising 1.4% to 17,660.02.

Japanese shares closed lower. The Nikkei Stock Average fell 1.0% to 36,203.22.

India’s BSE SENSEX added 0.1%, closing at 83,079.66.


Europe

Stocks in the U.K. finished higher. The FTSE 100 Index gained 0.4% to 8,309.86.

Germany’s DAX rose 0.5% to 18,726.08, and France’s CAC 40 added 0.5% to 7,487.42.


North America

U.S. stocks ended mixed. The DJIA was unchanged at 41,606.18, the S&P 500 was flat at 5,634.58, and the Nasdaq rose 0.2% to 17,628.06.

Australian Market

Local markets are expected to open lower. Ahead of the local open, SPI futures were down 39 points to 8,111.

The Australian share market reached a new record intraday high yesterday, with the S&P/ASX200 rising as high as 8,150.5 in afternoon trading before closing at 8,140.9, up 19.3 points (0.24%).

Notable mergers and acquisitions activity included deals involving Xero, Platinum Asset Management, and Regal Partners, as well as Pacific Smiles Group.
